Pastoral Council

PASTORAL COUNCIL

In Response to recommendations of the Second Vatican Council, the Holy Name Parish Council was formed under the leadership of Fr. James Vance during the late 1960s. The goal was to increase lay involvement, and give parishioners an active voice in parish affairs.
The Parish Council meets once a month to discuss and assist the pastor in policy-making and decisions regarding the parish's spiritual, educational, social and financial direction. Members are elected by the parish community and serve a three-year term.

Mary Adams

I have been a member of Holy Name Parish for 66 years. I was baptized, received my first communion, was confirmed, and was married at Holy Name Church. I attended Holy Name school grades 1-12 and graduated in 1972. I grew up in my parents (Joe Evans and Ann Wenninghoff Evans) home on the corner of 45th and Corby with nine brothers and sisters..  In 1976 I received a bachelor's degree in Health Information Management from the College of Saint Mary in Omaha.  I spent thirty four years working as a Health Information Manager for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in Nebraska.  I retired in 2011 and became a caregiver for my father, stepmother and grandchildren.

I married Richard Adams in 1978.  We have four children.  All of our children attended Holy Name School from kindergarten through 8th grade.  I have been involved in most of the organizations in the parish (with the exception of the Men's Club)  I have volunteered at the Humble Jumble for about 27 years and continue to do so. , I was an active member of the Home and School Association while our kids were in school, I was a member of the soccer club until all of the kids were out of school.  I helped with the cleaning of the cafeteria following the fish fry's for many years.  I have been a member of the Holy Name Women's Confraternity nearly all of my adult life.  I now serve as Co-Treasurer (with my husband) for the Holy Name Saint Vincent de Paul Society and am very dedicated to the work the society performs.  Lastly, for approximately the last 7-8 years I have been a member of the Holy Name Parish Council.  For the last several years I have served as the President of the Parish Council.

Teresa Burks

I grew up in Holy Name Paris and graduated from HN High School in 1972. I have two children, seven grandchildren and one great child. Two of my grandchildren graduated from HN grade school. I am a nurse and have worked at the VA Medical Center for thirty-four years. I have been a part of Holy Name for many years and  I have seen the ups and downs we have gone through. As we prepare for some changes I think the future is bright for Holy Name. This is an opportunity to be a part of preparing for the many years ahead for our Holy Name Parish.

I have been a member of Holy Name Parish for at least seven years.  I was previously a parishioner of St. Richard’s and St. Therese prior to joining Holy Name. I am an EMHC and Lector and would attend 8:00 a.m. mass.  I have had a chance to meet a number of you in working various fundraising events. But look forward to meeting as many of you as possible.

During the week, I work with Vocational Rehabilitation. We serve Visually Impaired, Blind and Deaf Blind individuals. I also serve on the board of a number of non-profit organizations with in the community. I love connecting people with resources that help them with remaining healthy, empowered and valued.

I have had the privilege of serving on the Parish Council for about five years. As a Parish Council representative, I look forward to servicing you all. Lus know any questions or concerns. “Alone we can do little, together we can do so much”. Helen Keller.

I was born and raised in Northwest Iowa and have an Associates of Arts Degree from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. This is my first year as a member of the Parish Council and I am excited to help serve the church and the community.

My husband Frank and I have been members of Holy Name Parish since 1973. Our three children were all baptized here, one child was married, and several grandchildren were baptized at Holy Name Church. As a professional educator I was honored to serve for nineteen years as the Principal of Holy Name School.  Retirement has allowed us to spend quality time with our seven grandchildren and allowed me to become actively involved in our Holy Name Conference of the St. Vincent dePaul Society, I serve as its secretary.  I am very pleased to continue supporting our Parish by serving as a member of the Holy Name Parish Council.
